Cthulhu Naturalist

Photograph was lovingly donated by my awesome sister Emily.

Now, we quietly approach a baby cthulhu in its natural environment.

It’s spotted us.

We’ll have to stop here, or it else it might flee into the cosmic abyss.

This newly hatched offspring is in the first pupal stage. In order to become a fully mature, adult cthulhu, this hatchling will have to undergo pupation and metamorphosis 666 times.

At this, the most vulnerable stage in their life cycle, hatchling cthulhus camouflage by mimicking the shapes of helpless and adorable species in the environment. They have a truly remarkable ability to transform into an astonishing array of shapes, from puppies to pandas. This one has taken the form of a kitten, in order to successfully blend in into a household.

Cthulhus are voracious eaters, who spend their lives in constant pursuit of more fuel for their high-energy lifestyles. As we all know, adult cthulhus consume entire worlds, but hatchlings like this one can only handle smaller prey, like hopes and dreams.

This one has caught and killed a wish.

It’s time to go, and let this baby enjoy its meal.
